Welcome
to Angaston - Barossa Valley, South Australia
"The
Seat of the Angas Vision"
Welcome
to our beautiful, historic village. Angaston holds
a unique position in South Australia’s heritage, being the
home of George Fife Angas, the founding Chairman of the
South Australian Company. Established in 1835
in London, the South Australian Company won the development
rights to a new colony in Australia to be carved out of
the older colony of New South Wales. This new colony
of South Australia was to be a commercial venture, free
of convicts, a feature common to all previous Australian
colonization by Great Britain. So South Australia
was going to be different!
The
Angaston and greater Barossa Valley district owes its wonderfully
rich mixture of German, English and Scottish cultural heritage
to the immense vision of Angas in encouraging free thinking,
free worshiping, hard working ordinary families to migrate
to a better, prosperous future on the other side of the
world. A future built on vineyards, orchards, sheep,
cattle and wheat, a belief in themselves and a courageous
spirit uncommon today.
We
are incredibly proud of our lovely village. Vibrant,
friendly, prosperous, historic, rich in food and wine, a
tourist mecca nestled in the Barossa Ranges – join
us, visit, relax, enjoy and return home with an Angaston
smile in your heart!
